Two simple tips for great print results

Photos from your phone, digital camera, or even old family albums can all turn into beautiful prints. What we often see, however, is that images are saved or edited in ways that reduce file quality — which can affect the final print.

The good news? It’s usually easy to avoid. With two simple tips (and a bit of help if you want it), you’ll greatly improve your chances of getting the size you want with the best possible result.

1. Choose the right file

Modern smartphones and digital cameras capture images with more than enough quality for large prints. Even scanned photos from old albums can work surprisingly well.

Problems often arise when images are saved again or shared. In many cases, file size is automatically reduced to save space. Images downloaded from social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat are heavily compressed, as are images sent via WhatsApp or text message.

That doesn’t mean these images can never be printed — but they usually work best at smaller sizes.

Our recommendation: always use the original file. Locate the image where it was first saved and upload it directly to our tool. You’ll then receive a quality rating and see which print sizes we recommend for your image.

If you need to transfer an image, some methods preserve quality better than others. AirDrop between iPhones or Macs keeps the original file intact, as do cloud services such as WeTransfer, Google Drive, or Dropbox. You can also transfer files directly via cable from your camera or phone.

2. Edit smart (if you choose to)

If you’d like to edit the image yourself, it’s worth knowing which tools best preserve quality.

Built-in editing tools on your phone — such as Photos on iPhone or Samsung Gallery — work directly with the original file without compressing it. The same applies to professional software like Photoshop or Lightroom.

On the other hand, apps such as VSCO, Snapseed, or Instagram filters often compress images when exporting, which can reduce print quality.

Prefer not to edit the image yourself? We’re happy to help. Whether you need small tonal adjustments or more advanced retouching, you choose how much assistance you want when uploading your image in our tool.
